1. Intended Use
This product is used on GPP-100 Specific Protein Analyzer for quantitative determination of Lambda Light Chain (LAM) in human serum as an aid in the diagnosis of abnormal LAM metabolism.
2. Summary
The immunoglobulin consists of two heavy chains and two light chains. There are two kinds of light chains: kappa and lambda, with a ratio of approximately 2:1. These proteins are produced by plasma cells. With plasma cell disorders, such as multiple myeloma (MM), a plasma cell becomes neoplastic and produces large amounts of the same type of abnormal monoclonal immunoglobulin, which may be a kappa or lambda light chain. Such disorders may also lead to increased light chains in the urine, causing kidney damage. As a result, light chain testing in blood or urine can be used to detect excess light chains and changes in the ration of kappa and lambda production, which help diagnose plasma cell disorder and monitor the treatment.
Light chains may increase in patients who suffer from autoimmune diseases, infection, tumor, acute and chronic hepatitis, hepatic cirrhosis, etc., with kappa and lambda chains increasing simultaneously. Simultaneous increase of kappa and lambda chains in urine is also observed in patients with autoimmune diseases, nephropathy and diabetes.
